The early childhood curriculum
Our Pre-K program blends traditional and creative methods in a print-rich environment, with a multi-sensory program geared to the developmental needs of every child. It:
- Encourages independent and creative thinking as well as creative self-expression.
- Teaches respect and an understanding of the differences of others.
- Uses play to teach children how to share, cooperate, take turns, and work together respectfully.
- Fosters exploration and discovery every day.
- Uses both phonics and a whole-language approach to reading.
- Gives children frequent chances to write and draw as expressions of concepts and experiences.
- Strengthens fine motor skills and proper pencil grip through the Handwriting Without Tears philosophy and activities.
- Lays the foundation for character education.

Ohana Pre-K
The Pre-K program for three and four year olds runs five days a week, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Pre-K students must be three years old before September 1 of their entry year and must have mastered independent bathroom skills before entry.
From Pre-K to kindergarten and beyond
Day School families have a natural path into Ohana Institute's kindergarten, where our Elements team continues the same hands-on, student-centered approach. Kindergarten through 12th grade is on one campus, so a child who starts with us at three can grow up in the same community, with teachers who knew them at every stage.
